Stationary Refrigeration Systems; Cat. 1

This short programme is intended to certify personnel that in their work handle refrigeration gases. The main intensions is to cover the minimum requirements for the category one certification referred to in article 5(1) of Regulation (EC) No 842/ 2006 in relation to stationary refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump equipment containing certain fluorinated greenhouse gases. The theoretical and practical demonstrations in this programme are intended to remind practitioners of the approved ‘good practices’ that meets the above mentioned legislation when working with refrigerants.

This is a 35 hrs of guided learning course. Students need to invest further hours in the course, which will include private study and home assignments.

Lessons are held as indicated on the prospectus and website.

This unit covers the activities provided for article 2(1): leakage checking of applications containing 3 kg or more of fluorinated greenhouse gases and of applications containing 6kg or more of fluorinated greenhouse gases with hermetically sealed systems; recovery; installation; maintenance and servicing.

Visual and Manual inspection of the whole refrigeration system and carry out indirect and direct leakage checks in line with recovery, installation, maintenance and servicing procedures. Filling and updating of equipment reports together with risk assessment and health and safety records, forms an integral part of the course.

The following are the suggested pre-requisites and/or entry requirements needed:

Entry Requirements;

  • Lev.3 Vocational Certificate related to refrigeration systems.
  • Communication and Analytical functianal skills
  • Candidates must be able to handle vocational tools and alert to observiset/workshop safety procedures and be familiar with the skills and knowledge as listed in the comission regulation (EC) no. 303/2008.

Course participants may be awarded either an MCAST Certificate of Attendance or an MCAST Certificate of Achievement.

MCAST Certificate of Attendance

  • An MCAST Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to those candidates who attend at least 80% of the lessons.

MCAST Certificate of Achievement

  • An MCAST Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to those candidates who satisfy the 80% attendance criteria AND ALSO choose to sit and pass the course assessment/s.
  • Students who opt not to sit for the assessment/s or fail (the assessment/s) will however be awarded an MCAST Certificate of Attendance provided that they fulfill the minimum attendance criteria as stated above.

If the student intends to obtain a Certificate of Achievement, she/he is required to sit for an assessment/s. Assessment/s may take various forms such as a home assignment, class assignment, practical test and time constrained test. However, the assessment/s is not compulsory and an applicant may choose not to sit for it.

There are no extra costs to the course.
