Port Work Induction Course

This is a 40 Hour course spread over 2 weeks

During this course students will become familiar with the following:

  • Securing cargo
  • Slinging and signalling
  • Undertaking complex lifts
  • Handling cargo manually
  • Stuffing and de-vanning cargo
  • Operating ship’s gear to transfer cargo
  • Supporting dry bulk cargo operations
  • Driving shore-based tractor units
  • Driving light self-propelled vehicles on and off Ro/Ro vessels
  • Supporting Ro/Ro operations
  • Driving heavy self-propelled vehicles on and off  Ro/Ro vessels
  • Maintaining effective working relationships
  • Maintaining a safe and clean environment

Applicants should be 18 years of age, able to read and write. Applicants must be medically and physically fit, in possession of a driving licence and must present an original police conduct

Certificate issued by MCAST will be awarded to those students who have attended 80% and more of the lectures and passed the examinations

Oral Assessment at the end of the course
